The Francine Chronicles
Poet, master gardener, and fabric artist Ruth Weinstein offers a tribute to her lifelong partner, as well as a celebration of their community in rural Arkansas, where the two of them have labored on the land since the 1970s. In this mostly playful collection, Weinstein plows the fertile ground of standard religious doctrine, producing a feminist garden of newly-made myth, where her avatar, Francine, a latter-day Eve, takes credit for populating the Earth with women and calling forth light, casting doubt on the patriarchal legends we have heard in the past.
